Udupi, Jun 20: In an incident that occurred on June 19, a stranger robbed the gold chain of a woman who had come to Kasturba Hospital Manipal for treatment on the pretext of keeping her ornament safely inside her bag.
Sharadamma, wife of Tippeswamy, resident of Cheelekere Boarding colony in the district of Chitradurga had come to Manipal, along with her daughter Vijayalaxmi. After getting treated in the hospital, Sharadamma was waiting near the OPD section at around 8 am. A stranger approached Sharadamma and said that he will get 50% of her bill amount reimbursed by the hospital and took all the bills to a nearby photocopy shop and came back after getting the same photocopied.
The stranger told Sharadamma, the victim, that if she wears golden chain on her neck, the hospital authorities will not reimburse the 50% amount of the bill, thinking that she is affluent and asked her to remove the chain and give it to him. Gullible Sharadamma, believed the stranger and gave the golden chain to him. He wrapped the same in a piece of paper and put the same in a bag, that the stranger himself had brought and gave the bag to Sharadamma saying that the golden chain is in that bag. The stranger left the place for a while and did not return.
When the victim checked the bag, the chain was missing. The golden chain was weighing 30 grams and costing Rs 70,000. A complaint in this regard is filed in Manipal police station under IPC column 420.
