Hassan: Rogue tusker claims life of woman near Belur

Hassan, Jun 20: A woman who was cornered by a lone tusker lost her life. The incident that happened at Deveerahalli village near Adagur in the district on Wednesday June 19 morning.

The deceased has been identified as Pushpalata (35), wife of Thakur from Deveerahalli.

Pushpalata was working in the family's agricultural field when a rogue tusker suddenly attacked her. Although Pushpalata's husband, Thakur, was a little distance away, he became helpless. People in nearby fields came running on hearing the wails of Thakur, but they could not scare away the elephant. Therefore, Pushpalata breathed her last on the spot.

The elephant then attacked a cow and two calves belonging to farmers from Kodihalli village on its way.

MLA, K S Lingesh, who visited the village on hearing about the incident, consoled the family members. He summoned the forest conservation officials and disbursed compensation of two lac rupees to the bereaved family.
