Bengaluru, Jun 19: Veteran state level leader of CPM, B Madhava passed away at his residence at Padil here after a brief illness on Wednesday June 19.
Madhava had served as a member of the party's state politburo and also as the state vice president of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), besides being the CPM Dakshina Kannada district secretary, president of Dakshina Kannada CITU, and national president of Beedi Federation. B Madhava had also served the cause of insurance employees as the president of insurance employees association. He had led labourers’ agitation and leftist movement since long.
B Madhava's demise is considered as a huge setback to the fight carried out by the labour class.
In spite of being busy with agitations for labourers’ welfare, B Madhava had also become a popular translator. He had published books on history of labour struggle, leftist principles, Carl Marx, etc. He was a good translator and used to ably translate Hindi, English or Malayalam addresses delivered by national level leaders in public meetings and conventions on the spot. He had given his leadership to several struggles for serving the interests of beedi workers. He was always busy with creating awareness and policy-related knowledge among beedi and other factory workers.
Whenever communal clashes erupted in coastal districts of Karnataka, Madhava was in the forefront in raising his voice against them and organizing programmes aimed at creating communal harmony.
Madhava, who led a number of movements and other programmes in Dakshina Kannada district, has left behind a large number of his fans and followers.
