Kaup, Jun 19: “Several projects worth Rs 58.02 crore are being implemented under national storm relief scheme jointly by the central and state government with help from World Bank in order to provide temporary shelter to those who get displaced due to natural calamities,” said Karnataka Revenue minister R V Deshpande.
He was speaking after inaugurating multipurpose shelter useful during storm constructed near Kaup Padu government higher primary school and Hejmady Kodi fisheries development works taken up by Udupi district administration, zilla panchayat, PWD, department of ports and inland water transport, Udupi on Tuesday, June 18.
He said that two buildings will be constructed for shelter during storms at Rs 50.05 crore, 15 Kondi roads will be developed near sea side under two packages worth Rs 22.97 crore, bridge for Manooru Godanagundi rivulet and connecting road at Rs 13.50 crore, and Rs 16 crore are set aside for Saligrama bridge and connecting road.
“The government has simplified draft policy to simplify CRZ act and reduced the current 200 mtrs to 50 mtrs. The trouble faced by people in urban limits regarding single layout will be reviewed,” he said.
Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon who chaired the programme said that that the quantity of rain in Udupi is less this monsoon. “The minister asking district administration to provide drinking water in task force model is worth welcoming,” he said.
Udupi zilla panchayat members Shilpa G Suvarna, Geetanjali M Suvarna, Wilson Rodrigues, Shashikant Padubidri, Udupi tahsildar Pradeep Kurudekar, Palimar gram panchayat president Jithendra Furtado, taluk panchayat member Shekhabba, former municipal council vice president K H Usman, assistant commissioner Dr Madhukeshwar, PWD executive engineer Gokuldas, assistant executive engineer Jagadish Bhat, assistant engineer Mithun Shetty, councilors and people representatives were present.
Additional deputy commissioner Vidya Kumar welcomed. Kaup tahsildar Santhosh Kumar proposed vote of thanks. Elloor gram panchayat secretary Chandrashekar Salian Manipur compered the programme.
