Mangaluru, Jun 18: Anything can happen to anyone at any time, especially when one is travelling. Road accidents are claiming many lives these days. It is very rare that someone who is critically injured in a road accident gets a chance to live. Such is the case of Akshay Kumar (24), who met with a serious accident but has got a second chance in life. Unfortunately, this chance has proved to be very expensive and he is struggling to pay for his treatment.
On June 10, Akshay who resides in Kavoor left for Mangaluru city on his bike to meet his friend. It was a cloudy evening and when he reached KPT, it started to drizzle. He continued his ride and when he reached Kadri, he suddenly noticed a stone on the middle of the road. To avoid the stone, he applied brakes on his bike. But due to the rainwater on road, his bike skidded and he fell off and hit an electric pole nearby. The locals immediately shifted him to KMC Hospital.
Critically injured Akshay had to undergo major surgeries which saved his life. “Akshay has got proximal descending aortic post traumatic pseudoaneurysm with dissection and adjacent hematoma and endovascular covered stent graft placement. The procedures were done successfully. But he is in need of further treatment and observation. The approximate cost of the procedure is Rs 8 lac,” says Dr Keerthiraj M, MD, Consultant Neuro and Interventional Radiologist, who is treating Akshay.
Akshay comes from a financially weak background and lives with his mother and brother near Akash Bhavan. Akshay’s mother works as a sweeper in a private hospital in the city while his brother works in a cable network firm. The family does not have other sources of income and is not in a position to provide the treatment as advised by the doctors. They are also unable to bear the expenses of the treatment.
The family members now helplessly watch in dismay as Akshay’s health deteriorates with each passing day. They are now seeking financial help from willing donors to provide treatment for Akshay, and hope that his treatment continues and he can lead a normal life again.
