Mangaluru, Jun 17: The city corporation here has done it again. In spite of getting the bitter experience of starting the work at the fag end of the summer and then being left with half completed works when the
monsoon arrives, has been the oft-repeated tale of the corporation but it seems the corporation and its officials have not learnt it lessons.
Semi completed works, rocks and sand spread on the road, drains that are open at several places and such other things are waiting to give rise to accidents. At many places the pedestrians do not have enough space to walk because of these works. The story is the same in areas like Ladyhill, Lalbagh, Jail Road, Alake and several other places. In many places, underground drainage work is on while in some others roadsides have been dug but the reason for the same is not known. Several interior roads have become muddy because of digging of tar road.
In places like New Chitra and Mannagudde, the concrete road is being broken within a year since the road was inaugurated.
Executive engineer of the city corporation Linge Gowda is confident of completing all the pending works soon. He said that interior roads would be temporarily repaired now and tar road would be laid after the end of the monsoon season. Executive engineer Gururaj Maralahalli said that under instructions from the district deputy commissioner, the possibility of allowing vehicles on the left side to move without having to stop at Lalbagh circle is being considered. "A NITK team has conducted verification. In a few days we may receive their report, based on which further work would be undertaken there," he stated.
