Bengaluru, Jun 16: State home minister, M B Patil, who held a meeting with high level officials in the Vidhana Soudha on Saturday June 15, instructed them to ensure that IMA Jewels scam mastermind, Mansoor Khan, should be arrested at any cost at the earliest.
The minister discussed the nature of the scam, estimated amount of fraud, number of complaints, methods employed to detect the fraudster etc at the meeting. Speaking to media persons later, he said that the case has now been entrusted to Special Investigation Team (SIT), which has now been questioning directors of the above company. He said that the officials have been directed to seize assets of the accused in addition to arresting him.
Mansoor Khan
He said that forfeiture of properties does not fall under the police department, which can only look from the angle of fraud, and hence, the chief secretary has been suitably instructed to do the needful in association with other departments. He said that law would be modified suitably to give the police power to attach properties like in Tamil Nadu in such cases.
Global economic offender
There is likelihood of Mansoor being declared a global economic offender shortly. It is said that the central office of the Interpol in France is likely to issue red corner notice for Mansoor Khan, who has been lying low after cheating investors to the tune of thousands of crores of rupees. The state's criminal investigation department's interpol division has already issued red corner notice and sent the same to the home ministry at the centre for doing the needful, sources in the department said.
Raid
The SIT raided the properties of seven directors whom it has arrested on Saturday, and took into possession incriminating documents pertaining to their property and other details.
