Belman, June 16: Farmers are staying away from agriculture for various reasons. Non-availability of labour is one of them. Under these circumstances, Inna gram panchayat, with cooperation of local Vikas Bharath trust, has brought out a scheme of plowing land with tractor for farmers at concessional rates under the leadership of Muniyalu Udayakrishnayya Shetty charitable trust.
“The scheme is taken up with the intention of attracting all the farmers under the limits of Inna gram panchayat towards agriculture. Farmers can make use of this service by paying a rent of Rs 500 per hour,” said Inna Deepak Kotian, one of the organizers. The remaining amount will be borne by the trust. He has urged farmers, who have left their land barren, to make use of the scheme.
“Paying at the rates of Rs 900 to Rs 1,200 for tractors coming from Davangere and Shivamogga will be a burden for farmers in our village. But this unique scheme will be useful for them,” said Deepak.
Farmers say that more people will take up agriculture when more schemes of this kind, to encourage farming, are implemented in every village through local groups.
“The facility is confined to Inna gram panchayat at present and is likely to extend to nearby panchayats, if necessary,” said Deepak Kotian.
