Belman, Jun 16: “While there is movement in the country for cleanliness and even village folks speak about it, workers employed in construction of dam here have been discarding empty cement bags everywhere in Nalleguthu, Sacharipete area,” allege the local residents.
Construction of Sacharipete Nalleguthu bridge and dam are in progress. Hundreds of used plastic bags and empty sacks are being thrown in the river, road and other places. Farmers allege that the workers are polluting the environment in spite of being warned against such acts in the past.
Now that monsoon has set in, plastic bags are likely to enter the river along with the rain water. Besides, they may fall in paddy fields due to the heavy breeze of Monoon, which may disrupt agricultural activities. Local farmers have urged the contractor to get the plastic waste bags removed from all over the place.
There is widespread anguish about the irresponsibility of those who are doing government work. Apart from the empty sacks, other forms of trash is also being scattered in the vicinity of the construction work area. People have urged the concerned to clear the area as soon as possible.
