Mangaluru: No OPD services for patients in twin-districts on June 17

Mangaluru, Jun 16: The outpatient departments (OPD) of hospitals in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts will not function from 6 am on Monday June 17 to 6 am the next day. This decision has been taken in tune with a call given by Indian Medical Association (IMA) to register protest against, and condemn the attack on doctors in West Bengal.

This was informed by president of Indian Medical Association's Dakshina Kannada unit, Dr B Sachidananda Rai, and his Udupi district counterpart, Dr Gurumurthy.

They said that OPDs services will not be available in any of the private medical colleges and hospitals from June 17 morning to Tuesday morning. They explained that no services including medical shops in these hospitals will be open. However, emergency services have been exempted from this agitation call, they added.

OPD services will not be provided even at Manipal Hospital, and Dr TMA Pai Hospital at Udup[i and Karkala. KMC Manipal medical superintendent, Dr Avinash Shetty, said that emergency treatment service will however be provided during this period.

Ayuth Foundation units of both these districts have extended support to the strike cal.

    Many of the older generation of doctors , came from well to do families(exceptions are there though), due to which ,they had access to good education ( either by studying well and getting seats in govt medical college Or by paying the high fees of private medical colleges) . They surely must be earning quite handsomely, but quite unlikely to be enough to buy luxury cars , which only businessmen , lawyers , contractors , honest govt servants and politicians can afford. (Pun intended).
    Most of these senior generation of doctors have made their money by selling real estate ( family owned) or by investing wisely during their younger days. Many even have diverse business venture s .
    It's very rare to see the younger generation of doctors who have come up to be driving luxury vehicles ( unless it's with their rich parents money).

    As we all know unaccounted money can come only from collection of doctors fees . Rudolph next time you meet a doctor , make sure you ask for a receipt ok( if you have not been asking for one already). It will be a small step for you , but a giant leap for Indian Healthcare.
    If the doctor s paying up income tax ( if they are not doing so adequately already )will protect them from bodily harm , they will surely oblige . After all who wants to get beaten or abused .

    I fully agree with "Chetnas" views that most docs are so greedy that they want to see maximum no of patients every day without paying much attention to his complaint this trying to fatten their pockets; this type of "hasty consultation" leads to criminal medical negligence leading to the death of an innocent who pays fees through his nose! Most act like dictators, getting angry if the patient voices his opinion!

    How come so many young docs afford to buy high end luxury card costing above 50 lacs?

    IMHO, medical profession has become a business with the labs, pharmacy cartel all working hand in glove to fleece money!

    Prof B M Hegde is right what he has to say about this profession!!

    There are very busy doctors who have too many patients. No doctor likes to see more than a comfortable number and give only limited appointments. But these drs cannot refuse sick patients who request and try to get appointments or just walk in. Then you all complain that they see too many cases. Why do you visit busy doctors there must be a reason why they are busy. Why don t you go to drs with very few patients. There are many drs like that.

    Doctors should let go of their greed.
    When there is an emergency at night, they say 'aren't we human beings? Don't we require rest?' How laughable is that!!!
    Any well established Obstetrician in Mangalore sees around 20 patients a day, approximately 500 a month, taking the lowest figures. This could lead upto more than 10 deliveries a day. Why should the doctor take up so many patients, putting every delivery at risk? Isn't that greed? Refer the extra patients to other budding doctors. Or put a board stating that I will not see more than 3 patients a day.
    The same applies to surgeons on other doctors too.

    When you attend more patients, may be because of fatigue you tend to do mistakes. Your mistakes are not just mistakes, it might lead to a loss of life which you can never get back.
    You curtail your greed for money, we are with you.

    Go to govt hospital doctors like you have many in Mangalore. When you chose Pvt hospital on your own wish don't complain about fees. Go and fight with your govt to make govt hospitals like pvt. In Mangalore one of your biriyani ministers takes crores not to improve govt hospitals so that Pvt hospitals can make good business. Don't just blame doctors.

    Ask your fellow doctors who are on government payroll to do justice to the salaries they receive. Stop them to practice in private.
    When government teachers are not allowed to give private tuition, let the same law be applied to doctors. Government doctors do their duty in government hospitals as if they are doing it as a charity!!

    Please tell me why the local Wenlock hospital is not getting into a medical college or an institute of national importance. If permissions are given it can become AIIMS. It is because of the greed of private medical college which does not want others to get into it. Any minister puts a proposal to make it a college they go to central or other government and block it. As a youngster, I had taken treatment there and never had problems. Also, there is a renowned hospital in Mangalore which I regularly visit have a medical card for Rs 100 per annum and there is no charge for a revisit. A revisit without the card for any other patient cost Rs 30/-. There is no consultation fee for OPD and it is free. Apart from this you can consult any number of doctors in one visit. Once I went to the hospital and consulted an endocrinologist, heart specialist, dental specialist and a skin specialist in a day and there was no charge. I also purchased medicines for 30% discount because of my card. Can a private doctor do this!. There are still some institute who are concerned about humanity!

    For your information wmeven Lady Goshen has only 20 to 25 deliveries a day. Please don't come to your conclusions . Most obgynaec have only 10 deliveries a month.

    I wonder why the 20-25 patients waiting outside the doctors clinic don't think like you. They must stop going to such doctors. It looks like these doctors with 20-25 patients waiting outside must be having some goondas to prevent the patients from going elsewhere. Investigate ok.

    Why don't you see we doctors also have families. we are not Mandir ka Ganta so that anyone can come inside hospitals and assault us till death. Only OPD is closed not the entire hospital. Support us in teaching lesson to politicians who blindly support some minorities for their vote bank. Today it's us and tomorrow it may happen to you also.

    So next time someone is hurt in Dubai please check whether he is from the majority of a minority and do the treatment and the local government will give you an award for this.

    This shows your mindset which has gradually become our nation's mindset. You as a doctor think like this then what about people who are not educated. Great are your thoughts . Please explain the same to the rulers of Dubai and they will surely acknowledge your effort

    Those who assault are no doubt at fault. Criminal Cases shall be the procedure to handle them. But giving communal angle to such situations doesn't match with this noble profession

    Do not act smart. We know in Mangalore how many doctors are greedy to the core. They take fee of Rs 400 and Rs 500 and do not even speak to the patient properly. They give appointment at 4 pm and come to the clinic at 5pm. No one can question them. Basically most of them do the hop, step and jump work
    Hopping to some hospital in the morning, teach students, step to surgery and make money and jump to their private clinic and make money and give least time to patients.

    I bet none of them pay the income tax. The income tax department should seriously check the assets of doctors . Most of them are wolves in teh clothing of sheeps. Just make money with least concern for patients.

    You must try out the Govt health services. It's probably not too bad. For 400 -500 rupees , you can see a movie at one of the Malls and probably have popcorn too. If doctors are not giving you time and if you feel they are not up to the mark , don't make them richer by going to them again and again.

    I wish the doctors strike all success . They should not only fight for Bengal but for all India. There was an incident last year when our MP of North Canara hit an orthopaedic doctor . Also, a local person in Mangalore hit a lady doctor in Mangalore . That time no one protested. This problem of resignation will only solve when Mamata resigns and BJP takes over . Till that time we will have protests and strikes

    It was attack in West Bengal and they are stopping OPD in Udupi & DK..What if they Twin districts people would have attacked Doctors for their negligence here??There are many cases here too..Today you will do protest and People will wait for your one mistake again & your one strike will be in front of your eyes that day.

    It's totally wrong to attack doctors for the death of a patient. However there are number of incidents that killed innocent lives because of the negligence of the doctors too.
    Why doctors did not go on strike when there was a scarcity of oxygen that claimed 70 innocent lives in UP under Yogi government???? Where were these doctors that time.
    This strike is more of politically motivated rather than for a cause.
