Udupi, Jun 14: “Bike riders and four wheeler drivers should be cautious during the monsoon season while driving. Drive cautiously. Pedestrians should also be cautious while crossing the road,” said superintendent of police (SP) of the district, Nisha James.
SP Nisha James was speaking to the public during the weekly phone-in programme that was held on Friday, June 14. Speaking about the problems on NH 66, SP Nisha said, “We have already proposed to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to install traffic signal lights on 11 spots. Soon signal lights will be installed in Ambalpady, Santhekatte and Katapadi. Road safety survey is already prepared. We have also identified the accident spots and remedial measures are also identified in the report. The report is submitted to NHAI and we are waiting for its approval.”
SP urged the citizens to be cautious during the rainy season. “Citizens should take care of themselves during the rainy season. Pedestrians should be cautious while crossing the roads. The vehicle riders and drivers are requested to move slowly as most of the accidents happen due to drivers’ negligence,”
“Proposal is sent to NHAI to build a foot over bridge in front of MGM College. As the foot over bridge includes huge expenditure, the NHAI will conduct feasibility study and if found necessary, they will approve the proposal,” said SP Nisha.
