Mangaluru, Jun 14: As the catchment areas of River Netravati are getting good rainfall, water has been flowing in the river and the water level in Thumbay dam has been rising.
The water level at Thumbay dam on Wednesday night stood at 2.32 metres. It further improved to 2.55 metres on Thursday morning. As water is being pumped continuously, it reflects an addition of ten cm of water.
The rising water level has given rise to hope among the citizens who depend on Thumbay dam for their water requirement.
Transformer damaged
The transformer that provides power to plant No. 2 at Thumbay that supplies water to the ground level main water reservoir at Padil was hit by lightning and heavy rain, and emergency repair has been undertaken. Till this repair work is completed, the city area and Suratkal have been split into two divisions. These divisions will get water supply on alternative days, said city corporation commissioner in a release.
Udupi
Pumping activity continues towards mitigating drinking water problem of the citizens here. Although the area has been receiving rain since Tuesday, River Swarna has not witnessed flow of water os far. Pumping from pits is now progressing at five places. The pit under Manai bridge is full. If the rainfall continues for three to four days, the dam may be full and water may begin to flow out. Kundli dam may become full by today or tomorrow. Once the other pits are full and water flow begins, the Baje dam may get good storage.
