Centurion, May 8: Consumption of alcohol by a cricketer while a game is on may not come under anti-doping rules governed by WADA and practised by the International Cricket Council but for most, it will go against the spirit of the game.

Shane Warne, no stranger to controversies, went against the 'spirit' of the game when he decided to take a quick swig from a glass of beer offered by a fan when Team Jaipur was walking out to field after the first strategy break in the game against the Royal Challengers on Thursday.

It didn't seem to bother Warne that he would be the focus of countless TV cameras, leave alone the eyes of the tournament organisers.

Warne's beer-consuming act caught everybody's interest as the cameras caught it live. Though it wasn't shown again on TV, IPL officials did admit to the incident happening and said that the matter has reached the governing body. Nothing came of it, though, as of Thursday.

Warne was on a high already because Jaipur had reduced RC to 50-5 before the strategy break. A few sips of beer simply added unnecessary controversy to a superb victory.

When a senior official was asked about it, he simply said: "I don't think that the incident should be against the rules or something. Because, just like dope tests, if cricketers were to be asked to go for alcohol tests, I wonder how many would actually pass it!"
