Puttur, Jun 13: A ninth standard student drowned in River Kumaradhara near the Shantimogaru bridge at Savanur in the taluk on the evening of Wednesday June 12.He has been identified as Ashfan (15), a student of St Philomena high school at Puttur.
Ashfan was the son of Hameed, residing in a rented home at Parane. Hameed is a native of Vittal.
Ashfan had ventured into River Kumaradhara near the Shantimogaru bridge along with six other friends to take bath. He had been dragged away by the undercurrent. A search launched thereafter succeeded in finding his mortal remains at the spot where he disappeared in water. The body, which was retrieved by locals before the fire brigade personnel arrived, was handed over to the family after conducting postmortem at Kadaba hospital.
Hameed works abroad. Ashfan's mother, Avvamma's parental home is located at Koli near Parane. Ashfan, who was a skilled Kabaddi player, has left behind his brother, sister, and mother.
Kadaba police sub-inspector Prakash Devadiga, Bellare policev sub-inspector, D N Erayya, and staff got involved with rescue act. Deputy superintendent of police Dinakar Shetty also visited the spot.
