Bantwal, Jun 8: “Nearly Rs 5.5 crore worth works in progress in Bantwal railway station will be completed by February next year,” said MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.
He inspected the works with MLA U Rajesh Naik on Saturday afternoon, June 8, at Kaikunje railway station and obtained details from section engineer K P Naidu. He later received complaints from people, gave suggestions and directions to officials asking to perform the work without troubling people.
Speaking to reporters, he said that two more platforms are being extended in the station. “The work on first platform is 50% completed and the other 60%. A pedestrian bridge is being constructed at a cost of Rs 67 lac. The railway station will be close to B C road on its completion.”
“A roof for platform, electrification, seats for travellers, boundary wall around platform will be constructed. People other than passengers may not sit on the seats and people from elsewhere will not be allowed to conduct business in the premises. Security in the station will be tightened and sheets that have come out near the tracks will be laid again,” he said.
“Touts should be avoided while booking tatkal tickets. CC Cameras will be installed in the station to keep an eye on illegal activities,” he said.
“No roads will be closed during works, let there be no anxiety in this connection,” he said.
Local BJP leaders were present. Mangaluru Railu Balakedarara Hitarakshana Vedike convener Sudarshan Puttur presented to the MP a list of demands including for passenger train stop at Neralakatte, well equipped railway station at Farangipete and other demands.
