Udupi, Apr 21: The district policemen have succeeded in arresting two persons apart from seizing three stolen cars that were being taken to Kerala for sale, on the night of Sunday April 19.
Udupi circle inspector Ganesh M Hegde, who got specific information about the fact that the stolen cars were being driven through the national highway 17 towards Mangalore from Byndoor direction, laid in wait near the Karavali Junction in the town, supported by the District Special Branch inspector H D Kulkarni and other personnel on the night of Sunday April 19.
The policemen at first intercepted a silver colour Maruti Alto car and arrested two persons Prashant and Vijay who tried to flee. The arrested persons confessed that the car was stolen by their accomplices and it was being taken to Kerala for selling. The policemen also gathered the information that two more stolen cars were following. As the two other cars, an Indica and Chevrolet Tavera approached, six occupants of these cars saw the policemen from a distance, abandoned the vehicles and ran away.
It is learnt, both Prashant (35) from Karwar and Vijay (40) from Hubli, work as middlemen for the sale of stolen cars. The value of the confiscated cars is put at around 11 lac rupees.
