Mangaluru, May 23: The management of a private college here, which was mired in dispute over the issue of wearing of scarf by a girl student, has issued transfer certificate to her.
This dispute had spilled into the public domain and the issue was widely debated by the people. Parents of the student, and Muslim leaders from the district had held several meetings in the college. All discussions aimed at finding an amicable solution to the issue had failed, and the management has now relieved the student from the college.
The girl in question stated that the Indian Constitution has given everyone the right to follow the religion of his or her choice. She also pointed out that the department of PU education had issued a circular stating that wearing of uniforms does not apply to PU students. She said she had faced injustice as the college did not allow her to wear scarf inside the college. She added that she proposes to approach court on this issue.
Campus Front of India Dakshina Kannada district president, Muhammed Sadiq, said that the decision of the college is against the constitution and the action of the college management in issuing transfer certificate to the student is condemnable.
