Mangalore, Apr 16: Indian Union Muslim League has decided to support the Congress candidate from Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency, B Janardhana Poojary, in the ensuing election, said Mirza M Mehadi, Muslim League state president.
The decision was taken after discussions, and a district delegation under the leadership of Ibrahim Jokatte, Muslim League secretary, met Poojary to extend support to him.
“The district has been suffering from disturbances and law and order problems after the BJP rose to power in the state. The society is adopting itself to the culture of violence. BJP being the root cause for all these problems in the state, it needs to be given a thorough drubbing. If elected to power, it will also affect the future development of the state and the country,” he added.
The Muslim league will support the Congress, which is a secular party, for rejecting the designs of the BJP which wants to rule through violent means, he explained.
Siddiq Abdul Khader, district general secretary, M Sadiq Kudroli, city district president, Muhammad Iqbal, Bantwal town unit vice-president, Ameena B Shiekh, district Women's League vice-president and leaders like Mustafa, T U Ismail, Sharif Jokatte, Adam Bava and P P Bava were present in the delegation.
