Udupi, Apr 13: The moment a politician sees a crowd his antenna is up and his vocal chords become active. The gaffe made by none other than Home Minister Dr V S Acharya typifies this penchant of politicians.
This amusing incident occurred, when Acharya belonging to the BJP, delivered a speech at a Congress local committee meeting, here on Sunday.
On April 16, Udupi-Chikmagalur Congress candidate Jayaprakash Hegde’s election office opening has been fixed at Hiriyadka.
A meeting had been organised in relation to this event by local president Vinod Kumar on Sunday.
Minister Acharya who had gone to pay condolences to the family of BJP worker Sridhar Malya who had passed away recently, was returning, when he saw the crowd gathered and went to the Congress meeting.
The workers confused with this sudden turn of events, invited him to come and participate. Acharya who began his address placed the achievements of his government before the workers.
Incensed with this, the workers entered into a confrontation with the minister asking him why the government was spending money on mutts and distributing cycles in order to strengthen the hands of Raghavendra (CM Yeddyurappa’s son).
Taken aback by this attack, Acharya quietly withdrew from the place.
Later, he clarified saying that since Vinod the organiser of that meeting was his friend, he went to visit him in his office. When he saw the crowd he felt like addressing.
But realising that it was a Congress meeting, he left the place, said Acharya
