Bengaluru: Archbishop asks churches to take additional security measures

Daijiworld Media Network- Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, May 13: Growing apprehensive at the attacks by suicide bombers at Sri Lanka, the Archbishop of Bangalore archdiocese has written to the priests of the churches, asking them to beef up security measures at their churches.

In view of risk perception caused by the blasts in churches at Sri Lanka, the city police commissioner here has declared high alert. The Archbishop accordingly has written to the heads of the churches here.

The head of Bangalore archdiocese has asked the churches to install large number of CCTVS and to arrange for monitoring the movements all the 24 hours of the day. He has impressed on the need to keep close watch on the entry and exit points of the church. Whenever there are no activities, the church premises should remain properly locked.

He has also asked the churches to post security staff at the doors. Strangers who bring bags, covers etc should not be allowed to abandon them inside the church premises. He also has pointed out the need to have emergency exits in churches to help the people to escape in case of emergency situations.

All parish churches should introduce security scanning and metal detection few feet before entrance similar to mall. Why are parish priests and bishops not taking interest in life and limbs of the parish people and instead more interested in construction of buildings and community halls. I think if malls can have metal detection facility at entrance so should churches atleast when people gather. If you don't care about security of parish people then what is use of your Mass dear Parish priests. Cctv camera are useless they can only be useful incase of theft or to show how the bomb blasted and people got killed and then circulate videos everywhere for others to watch... It's time people in church demand this from parish councilsand diocese... I don't think metal detectors and scanners and security is so expensive in India

Radicalized youth's, desire to attain Jannat, has transformed these animals, into killing machines. Temples n Churches should be sanitized before worship... It would be wiser to pray in small communities... Israel dogma, of neutralizing the enemy, before strike, must be incorporated into our security systems...

Gone are the days people used to come and go in Gods house pray worship ,or hold meetings, doors of Gods house open all the time and go home. Now we have to go with time,Like smartphones instead of writing letters. Its more useful when cctv when someone looks at it or any alarm at night ,etc.Otherwise a cctv too is not useful when noone looks at it,.Best is only one door is open during the day out of mass or festivity.Security is a must at all times when any big group of people are there.Even God cannt help when criminalists think of attack. But hope and pray it may not come to us.God may save and help us.

We should appreciate the Archbishop's timely advise to all instead of repenting later in case of such incidences taking place. Though we are all human beings worship one GOD Almighty in different cultures its the devil who tempts in different versions to divide and rule. Let us be united and pray that we do not see such incidents in our country at the worshipping places.

Evil powers of the world, take pleasure in destroying lives and properties and feel their task is accomplished.
To defeat their evil designs and to thrawt attacks, any public gatherings always
have to remain alert and tighten security measures like Israel does.
Govt support is very important, but people can't afford to remain complacent.

All this while, they refrained from calling the spade a spade . Moreover even quiet when SL was attacked , due their common interest of being 'Anti Modi'. Now when the heat is on 'additional security 'is wanted.

Nobody is anti-PM. Even if they are anti-PM the main reason is the communal and hate speeches uttered by some party members for which the party is not taking action. The party should gain trust of people and keep it. May be our PM is trying to do this but all his efforts are brought down by some members of the same party.

    Mr. Rai,
    Just see S.L.
There also majority and minorities are there but no religious division.
Division they have is between law abiding citizens and anti national forces.
    Which is better model?

Security is birth right of every citizen. It is not a charity from any party. Even anti Modi persons have a right for security. So also those who worship Modi. They too are vulnerable. And that is calling a spade a spade.

In today's world nothing can be taken for granted. It is better to be safe than sorry. Not just churches, but any place where the public gather in large numbers should take suitable precautions.
