Mumbai: Thanks to SpiceJet, business-budget flights become reality

Mumbai, May 11: SpiceJet would be introducing business-budget flights to India, which would be cheaper by about 30 to 40 percent over the normal fare. These flights would be operational from Saturday, May 11.

SpiceJet has titled this branch as SpiceBiz, which would be on offer in ten Boeing 737 flights operated earlier by Jet Airways. The seating arrangements in these aircrafts have been divided into business class with 2x2 seating arrangement in a row, and economy which would be 3x3 model. The airline said in Twitter that it would be offering gourmet meals, beverages, lounge access and enhanced baggage allowances in SpiceBiz.

These flights will operate on domestic routes between major cities like New Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Hyderabad. SpiceJet, which is now operating 20 B 737 planes of Jet Airways, plans to take this number to 22. With the starting of this service, the competitors are also likely to be forced to bring down their business class fares.

    What happened to their promise to fly overseas?Or it limits only to some gulf countries ?If they start alliance with foreign cooperatives,will be a big business .Because we have no alternative to fly to mangalore.Flight to Bangalore and back to mangalore means a half world tours ,lot of time waste,and money too.People who travel to Bombay (with AI)have to again travel to mangalore,face immense problems.

    Ajay Singh who acquired former private airline ModiLuft - previously owned by SK Modi and Lufthansa - in 2005 and re-christened it SpiceJet, which became the third-largest low-cost carrier. Singh was one of the core members of BJP's campaign team 1999,2004 2014 and is still an active supporter of the ruling party.
    Remember Narendra Modi's tagline for his 2014 election campaign, "Abki Baar Modi Sarkar" - Singh was the one who coined it.
    SpiceJet has been in the red for five consecutive quarters and has been registering losses for the past three financial years. For the financial year ended March 2014, SpiceJet’s net loss stood at Rs1,003 crore ($159 million) compared to a net loss of Rs191 crore ($30.5 million) in the preceding financial year.
    There is a serious effort going on by private airlines such as Spicejet and Vistara to benefit from this dismemberment of Jet Airways. The Jet airways closer are well-planned efforts to benefit the Spice Jet who supported the BJP campaign from two decades.
    The new launch of Spicebiz budget is 40 grounded aircraft of Jetairways and at the cost of 20,000 unemployment.
    The BJP MP Subramanian Swami exploded one on 21 April 2019 in the context of the ongoing Jet Airways crisis when he tweeted: “Government better be careful: Two Ministers are manipulating sale of Jet Airways spoils to SpiceJet whose real owners I will reveal later. Only above-board option GoI has is amalgam of Jet with Air India since Bilaterals on airspace involves Govt”.

    Why is the Modi government throwing money behind a failing SpiceJet?

    Have the PSBs which squandered away tens of thousands of crores of public money to Nirav Modis and Anil Ambanis suddenly turned holier and wiser over ₹1500 interim loan to Jet Airways? Or, was it a delaying tactic to meet some other objective? How many other companies of wilful defaulters they have taken control of and what are the norms for taking over such direct controls? Why Jet Airways is a special case?

    Surprised to see that Air India and Indigo here in Qatar are doing roaring business and happily cashing (looting/squeezing/minting) from their customers in the absence of their fiercest competitor ...the erstwhile Jet Airways. On the same note, with a Indian population of more than 5 lakhs, these are the main fliers originating out and into Qatar on a direct mode.

    I understand that SpiceJet has been permitted to fly overseas only on the most prominent routes in certain areas of the Middle East. I don't understand why the Government of India hasn't given the airlines entry into Qatar. It's common sense that if the Government has given a green signal to SpiceJet to fly on all those routes touched by the erstwhile Jet Airways then by default it should have started operations here too since Jet Airways was already having two regular flights to and fro to Bombay. There is something fishy here. This step motherly treatment to Indian passengers here in Qatar must stop. One would presume that either SpiceJet doesn't have the infrastructure (shortage of aircrafts) OR wants to avoid Qatar because it's a non-profitable zone OR the non-committment by the Government to fly into many sectors into a common GCC OR some other logistical reasons known best only between the former and the latter. Why are we forced to explore other nationality airlines and fly via via when this minor issue can amicably reach a solution in no time. This is pure partiality. This way they are losing precious revenue. I hope some authorities would intervene and find a remedial solution to benefit the airlines, customers and the Government at large.
