Udupi, Apr 9: Udupi district women’s Congress organised a district-level members’ convention here at Town Hall on Tuesday.
Speaking after inaugurating the convention, Congress contender for the Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency Jayprakash Hegde accused that the district which is the home town of the Home Minister and the Assembly constituency of BJP is witnessing the deteriorating women status besides emerging as the frightening and insecure hub for women.
Day-to-day incidents of hazard to women in the district have created havoc.
The mystery behind Padmapriya’s death still lingers unsolved, he added.
Stating that he would rather not prefer to highlight the issue of Padmapriya’s suspicious death in his campaigning, Hegde said that he will demand for a CBI probe tagged on by the exposure of the actuality behind the death.
Nowadays culture and ethical values are forcibly inculcated by external forces among youths. Irony is that parents play a mute role. BJP and its communal forces are coming out with innovative guidelines prescribing the code of conduct for youths.
Most of the Government assurances remain void, he criticised. Speaking on the occasion, former minister Motamma said Congress is the only party that has pledges assuring the interests of women. Most of the socio economic programmes catering to the development of women were introduced by the Congress government, she added.
“BJP’s moral policing and fake attempts to protect the culture of the country is absolutely nuisance and humourous. India is a land of diverse culture and fundamentalists will have no future in the midst of these diversities,” she said.
