Bengaluru, May 7: A group of people, relatives of a woman, who died during delivery, created ruckus and vandalized the hospital and also blocked road near Channapatna on the morning of Monday, May 6.
Traffic on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway was disrupted for more than an hour as the relatives and other public blocked the highway and demanded the administration to take action against the staff of the hospital accusing them of medical negligence. Police had to rush to the spot and clear the agitated relatives of the deceased woman.
Deekshita (22), wife of Heman, a resident of Bevoor village in Channapatna taluk died while giving birth to her child on the early hours of Monday at the Balu Hospital in Channapatna. Deekshita was admitted to the hospital on the night of Sunday as she complained of a pain with her husband. However, she lost her life during delivery. According to family sources, the baby is doing fine.
On hearing the news of the death of young Deekshitha, her family members and other locals who gathered near the hospital accused the hospital staff of medical negligence. They broke the furniture of the hospital. According to the doctors of the hospital, Deekshitha died due to cardiac arrest while giving birth to the child. The relatives of the deceased woman also urged the authorities to shut down the hospital.
The police force arrived on the spot and tried to pacify the protesters. However, the mob showed their anger on the cops too accusing them of hand in glove with the management of the hospital.
At last, deputy commissioner of the district Dr Amarnath arrived at the scene and gathered information about the whole incident. He pacified the protesters and said that action will be taken against the hospital authorities if the accusation of medical negligence is proved against them. Thereafter the body of the deceased woman was handed over to her relatives after conducting the post mortem.
A case in this regard is registered in the Channapatna police station.
