Udupi, May 3: Jos Alukkas Jewellers and Udupi district citizen committee has jointly arranged drinking water in clay pots to quench thirst of people in the scorching summer heat. One such spot ‘Jala Kuteera’ in Maruti Veetika near Chittaranjan circle was inaugurated by child talent Yuktha K Sama on May 1.

The shelter is created in artistic way by artist Ramesh Kidiyoor. Twenty litres water can be stored in two pots here. As water remains cold in clay pots, they have given new life to old tradition. A message here on a panel asks to use water sparingly as it is necessary for life.

“A situation of crying for water is being faced by all creatures including people. We have identified ten spots frequented by birds and animals and kept water for them. We took people suffering due to sunshine heat and thirst to the hospital. It inspired us to install Jala Kuteera. We opted to open it on Maruthi Veetika road brisk with traffic. Ravichandran gave space in front of his commercial complex. The arrangement will continue till monsoons,” said committee chief secretary Nithyananda Olakadu.

Jos Alukkas Jewellers manager Rajesh N R, staffs Rathish, Gopal, citizen committee office bearers Taranath Mestha Shirur, Sudhaker Devadiga, David and others were present.
