Belgaum, Mar 20: BJP MP Suresh Angadi and MLA Sanjay Patil, who had drawn flak from all over the state because of the controversial statements issued by them and their involvement with the hoisting of the saffron flag atop the municipal corporation here, have tendered unconditional apology to the people of the state for their action.
"Various disturbing incidents are taking place all over the state since the last four days, in relation to the said incident. We apologize for hurting the sentiments of the people of the state including writers, senior artistes etc.," they said.
To a question as to whether they committed a mistake by getting caught in the saffron flag controversy, Angadi said he can not comment on the aspect, as it happened all of a sudden. "We had approached those sitting on dharna on the issue, to strike peace. We thought the flag represented Hindu state. But we were duped," he added.
"I would not like to point out who was responsible for this faux paus. Unseen hands are working overtime to sully the image of Yeddyurappa government. We are apologizing to ensure that his government does not get a bad name because of our actions," he added further.
The leaders also said they were not under any pressure from any one to tender this apology.
