Udupi, Apr 16: As Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha elections are a few hours away, Udupi DC in a meeting of candidates and political parties held in her office on Monday, April 15 warned against violations of election code of conduct.
“Luring voters, campaigning within a radius of 100 meters from the polling booth, transport facility to voters, meetings within 48 hours of voting are violations. Campaigners who are from outside the constituency, supporters and activists should be sent out of the constituency. Inform if anybody disrupts elections, if meetings are held in houses, distributes liquor, gives speech in religious programme and provides mass meals. Complaints can be sent over C Vigil or helpline,” she said.
“As public campaigns are not allowed from 6 pm on April 16, sound system operators are asked not to let mikes, loud speakers and the systems on hire.”
Mock election
“A mock election will be held at 6 am on the day of elections. All the agents of candidates should be present. Booth agents should not carry mobile, smart watch, Wi-Fi dongle or any electronic item with internet to the booth.”
“Permission for erecting party booth from gram panchayat, corporation or municipal council near voting booths is mandatory. The booths should be simple and 200 meters away from the polling booth. A booth can have 3x1.5 feet banner, a table and two chairs. Shamiyana or tents are not allowed. Persons in the booth should be locals holding EPIC card. A vehicle of a candidate and one agent can travel in the vehicle. Only a maximum of five people including driver can travel in the vehicle on Election Day. Use by others of vehicle obtained in the name of candidate is not permissible,” she said.
Additional deputy commissioner Vidya Kumari and representatives of political parties and of the candidates were present.
