Mangaluru: Two including village accountant convicted for accepting bribe

Mangaluru, Apr 12: Two persons including a village accountant were convicted on charges of taking bribe.

N Honnappa (33), a village accountant in Navoor gram panchayat and another accused Victor Pinto (75) were proved guilty by the third additional district and sessions Judge B Muralidhar Pai.

The accused were caught red handed by the Lokayukta in 2011 while taking Rs 3,000 bribe from a woman named Sunitha D’Souza.

The court has sentenced Honnappa to one year imprisonment and Rs 10,000 fine under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act. Another accused Victor has been sent to 9 days in jail and Rs 5,000 as he is suffering from illness.

They were arrested by Lokayukta inspector Udaya M Nayak led team. Advocate K S N Rajesh had appeared against the accused.
