Mumbai, Apr 10: A civil engineer at a private company based in Doha was arrested on Monday for allegedly sexually assaulting his 75-year-old relative during his stay at her residence in April 2016. The arrest was based on an FIR filed by the woman against Nijamutheen Rahiman, 35 in August 2018.
As reported in TOI, Sahar police station officer said, “It took almost two months after we filtered through at least 150 names of fliers starting with Nizammuddin who had flown out of Mumbai airport since 2016. It took long as the suspect's family in Tamil Nadu refused to co-operate. We knew he would visit India during the month of Ramadan."
In the woman’s statement it is said that Rahiman stayed nearly a month at her place to attend job interviews abroad. "He sexually assaulted me in April 2016 and threatened me to silence," she said.
Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Manoj Kumar supervised the team including zonal DCP Anil Kumbhare, Sahar police senior inspector Shashikant Mane and inspector Sunaina Nate.
Rahiman was caught and arrested at the immigration check at Bengaluru airport on April 4.
