Mangaluru, Apr 5: A heartwarming deed of a little boy in Mizoram is winning the internet across the country.
Six-year-old Derek C L has become an overnight internet sensation for his kind-hearted deed in saving the life a little chicken that he accidentally hit.
Derek C L who ran his bicycle over his neighbour's chicken by mistake, immediately took it to hospital for treatment with all the money he had.
His innocent act posted by a family friend on internet has won hearts and became viral in a short time.
Derek was felicitated at St Pio School on Thursday, April 4 by headmaster Fr Stuart Prajwal Fernandes who hails from Mangaluru, in the presence of Derek's parents. The school is in Sairang, 20 kilometre from Aizawl, the capital city of Mizoram.
Derek is studying in the first standard, his father Dhiraj Chettry is a policeman and mother Lalnunpuii is a housewife.
St Pio School is being run by the order of Friars Minor Capuchin priests of Holy Trinity province which is headquartered in Bengaluru.
Speaking to daijiworld, Fr Stuart Prajwal Fernandes said, "On Tuesday evening after his school, he was riding his bicycle near to his house. Unfortunately, a small chick came in his way and got injured. Afraid for its life, he took the chick to his house and asked his father to treat it, but he was not taken seriously. So he rushed to the hospital with a 10 rupee note, which was given to him by his parents as pocket money. The boy was not aware that the chick was dead.
"The school decided to felicitate the boy for his kind-hearted and responsible gesture. Even while felicitating he was totally unaware why he was being felicitated. A strong message is being spread with his act, that we should respect everyone and show humanity towards not only humans but also to the animals," said Fr Stuart Fernandes.
Indeed, sometimes, children teach adults the most important lessons in life.
