Udupi, Apr 5: It is learnt that income tax officials raided residences of two political leaders located in Pitrody Kattegudde area at about 2 pm on Thursday April 4.
The houses which were targetted belong to Sadashiva Kattegudde, a finance firm owner, and Laxman, a gram panchayat member. Laxman was known to be involved with land dealings.
One of them was summoned to the income tax office for questioning, it is gathered.
Rani Abbakka squad
The all-women 'Rani Abbakka squad', which raided a Matka gambling den in the city, began its operations on right note with the arrest of two persons.
The squad led by woman police sub-inspector, Rekha, was on its rounds at around 5.35 pm on Wednesday when the team got information that Matka gambling collection was taking place near a footwear shop at the city bus stand here. The team went there and arrested Rakesh (26) from Santhekatte, and Santosh (42) from Kadekar here, and recovered Rs 2,435 from them.
A case against the accused was registered in the town police station. District superintendent of police, Nisha James, had introduced the all-women squad on April 2.
Election officials seize Rs 1.26 lac
Election officials who found that cash amounting to Rs 1,25,690 was being carried in a car near Yenagudde Wine Gate on Shirva-Katapadi Road on Thursday April 4, confiscated the cash. An election flying squad led by Raghava Shetty with staff Dharmappa and Chandrashekhar found this cash during vehicle checking on Katapadi - Shirva Road.
This cash was being taken in his car by Suresh Kotian from Udyavar, who operates a scrap shop at Jantra, Belman. The cash was produced before Kaup tahsildar as the person accompanying this cash failed to provide documentary evidence to explain about it. The amount stands deposited in the district treasury in the town.
