Bengaluru, April 4: CBI officials have arrested an Income tax official while receiving bribe from the managing director of prestigious construction company. Another official was arrested later.

Income tax officer H R Nagesh was arrested while receiving Rs 14 lac bribe from Srinivas of ‘Windsor Edifice’ on Wednesday night. Another IT officer Narendra Singh also was arrested in the case.

Nagesh and his team had conducted inspection at Windsor Company on March 6. Receipts of Rs 25 lac and Rs 15 lac paid by Srinivas to Sarvotham Raju were confiscated by them during investigations. Nagesh had issued notice to Srinivas asking him to appear for investigations on March 11. He was repeatedly called to the income tax office at BMTC building subsequent to it. Srinivas had also gone to the additional commissioner of income tax.

Nagesh sent him to Narendra Singh on March 19. Narendra Singh demanded Rs 20 lac bribe then. Srinivas agreed for Rs 14 lac after persuasion. Srinivas again visited Nagesh on March 23 and requested him to agree for lesser amount.

CBI officials arrested Nagesh while receiving the bribe money at Café Coffee day. Narendra Singh was arrested subsequently. The two officials are likely to be suspended on Thursday. It is the first incidence of receiving bribe by income tax officials among Karnataka and Goa circle lately.

It is said that Srinivas complained to CBI regarding the demand of bribe.
