Bengaluru: New vehicles to have high security number plates

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (EP)

Bengaluru, Apr 1: Vehicle thefts have increased these days. Many lose their hard earned money after vehicles are stolen. Therefore, the union government on orders from the Supreme Court has decided to put an end to the menace.

New vehicles sold from April 1 will be provided with high security number registration plate. “It has several specialties that are useful for vehicle owners,” said transport department commissioner V P Ikkeri.

“New vehicle manufacturers and distributors will have to mandatorily register the vehicles with these number plates. Vehicles missing with such number plates can be easily located. There are check posts everywhere now because of elections. Despite them, cash and valuables can be easily transported by changing vehicle number plates. The high security number plates will put an end to such incidents,” said check post inspecting officer Chandrashekar.

Vehicle owners have opined that such number plates should be used for old vehicles too.

These number plates will not be of much use for expensive vehicles as most of the number plates are fixed on bumpers which can be replaced easily by roadside mechanics & attach a new plate to that bumper replacing bumpers is not a big deal. In Mumbai it was compulsory to etch numbers on all glasses of vehicles as soon as you get your regn number which of course nobody follows or nor is implemented stictly. If implemented strictly this will be a costly affair to replace all glasses & will be a major detterent to thieves.

Very good initiative. But unfortunately not very well thought through.
Been hearing of high security number plates for a few years now. But none in force.
Saying this can be implemented in two weeks is nothing short of a miracle.
