Udupi, Mar 27: “1,660 people who are likely to create troubles in elections in the district are identified. Cases are registered against them.” said SP Nisha James in a news conference.
“We consider those who influenced and created panic in previous elections as intimidators. Cases under security act are registered against 148 such persons. We have obtained undertaking from 1,112 people.
“Out of 1.738 rowdies in the district, cases are registered against 1,401. Eight of them are sent away in exile. The process of registering cases against some of them is in progress.
“There are 255 very sensitive and 856 ordinary voting booths in the district. Out of 255 very sensitive booths, 55 are naxal affected. There are 102 vulnerable areas that create fear and influence elections in the district. We are taking action against intimidators there.
“Central paramilitary forces will arrive for election security. We have asked for five companies. Each company has 100 staff. They will create confidence in very sensitive and vulnerable election booths,” she added.
Deputy commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati responding to a question on election boycott said that zilla panchayat CEO from SVEEP committee is explaining the importance of elections and creating awareness to cast votes. Additional deputy commissioner Vidyakumari was present.
