Mangaluru, Mar 26: In a case of alleged drunken driving, the driver of a police jeep smashed into the divider near the railway station at Hampankatta here on the night of Tuesday March 26.

The driver, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, was allegedly driving the police jeep under a heavy influence of alcohol. He was part of the reserved police team, sources said.

The police jeep climbed over the divider before coming to a stop. As soon as the accident happened, people gathered in large numbers and took the driver to task.

Videos and pictures taken by the locals revealed that the driver was so drunk that he could barely walk properly.

It is alleged that police personnel who arrived at the spot objected to the locals taking pictures and videos of the incident.

Within no time, the pictures and videos of the accident became viral in social media.

The police however did not confirm that the driver was drunk. According to the police, the driver rammed into the divider after he veered the jeep in a bid to avoid hitting an oncoming auto rickshaw.

If this is the situation of the police jeep what can we expect of the general public. The policeman's name is not mentioned in this article. He must have drank at the police quarters, going to get some more stuff. Fresh stuff might have come from Goa by train.

Was noone in jeep during his drive? Why should police defend him?He is a employee by police and should be treated as normal person.Punishment is a must. Licence should be cancelled. In India police are always driven by a extra driver why is this extra. In all other countries Police self have to own a licence and self drive.Thats far better than depending on a seperate person, and extra pay .Why dont our police adapt some improvement ?Now he is drunk and hit it at divider .Sure it has to be repaired now.so police cant go to a emergency?

What an irony of law and order in Karnataka.
There are millions of people in Karnataka alone who don't have a job. But these people having a govt job can't do their duty faithfully & more of the irony is that he will be scot free with a warning.
