Mangaluru: 18 km-long Marathon to create awareness on voting on Mar 31

Mangaluru, Mar 26: “As a part of SVEEP activities, zilla panchayat, Mangaluru City Corporation and department of Youth Empowerment and Sports is all set to conduct a marathon of 18 km on March 31 from Mangala Stadium in order to create awareness on voting,” informed zilla panchayat CEO Dr Selvamani R.

Addressing media here on Tuesday, March 26, Dr R Selvamani said, "The marathon will be conducted in two categories, age category of above 16 and below 16 years of age. The marathon of 18 km will begin from Mangala Stadium and it goes via Mannagudda, New Chithra, Carstreet, Sharavu Temple, K S Rao Road, Nava Bharat Circle, PVS Circle, Selma Arcade, Kadri Temple Road, Bejai, KSRTC, Lalbagh, Kapikad, Daddalkad, Urwa Store, Ashok Nagar, Urwa Market and Ladyhill, which will culminate at Mangala Stadium again.



“There will also be 6 km marathon for 16 years below category, which will start from Mangala stadium and goes via Mannagudda, New Chithra, Carstreet, Central Market, Hampankatta, PVS Circle, Ballalbagh and Lalbagh. Even the walkathon will be conducted for the senior citizens to create awareness to the public about the importance of voting,” said Dr Selvamani R.

The committees of SVEEP have already coordinated with educational institutions, SHG groups to take part in the awareness marathon.
