Bengaluru, Mar 24: The present fiscal year is going to get over within a week’s time. However, the private schools of the state are in a confused state as the state government has not paid them their dues under the Right to Education (RTE) act. Because of this, the private schools are facing inconvenience and have not completed the process of yearly audit.
As per the statistics available from the private schools in the state, the government has to pay an amount of Rs 600 crore. Many schools have not received the money for the last two years. Some schools have received the payback for the 2017-18 fiscal but yet to receive the same for 2018-19 as per the information given by D Shashikumar, chief secretary of Associated Management of Primary and Secondary Schools in Karnataka.
Shashikumar also said that more than 12,000 schools in the state are waiting for the repayment of money by the government. The education department has received judicial abuse notice for not declaring the amount that is spent on each child, which gets admitted to the school under the RTE act. In spite of this, the education department is not bothered to release the repayment money.
A representative of the management of a private school in the city said, “Our auditor raised an objection during the school audit about the non-receipt of this amount. We do not want to put this burden on the parents. The government has to understand our plight.”
