Mangaluru, Mar 24: Sullia Legislative assembly constituency in the district of Dakshina Kannada has achieved a rare feat. Three people, belonging to the same legislative constituency limits have won the last Lok Sabha elections and have got the tickets for the 2019 elections too.
Central minister D V Sadananda Gowda, MPs Shobha Karandlaje and Nalin Kumar Kateel are the residents of areas which come under the limits of Sullia Legislative assembly constituency.
Central minister Sadananda Gowda is a resident of Devaragunda of Mandekolu village of Sullia taluk. He was MLA from the constituency of Puttur for two terms from 1994 to 2004. He became MP in 2004 by defeating Veerappa Moily in Mangaluru Lok Sabha constituency. Later in 2009, he entered the Lok Sabha for the second time by defeating Jayaprakash Hegde of Congress in the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency.
In 2014, Sadananda Gowda was elected as MP from the Bengaluru North constituency in which he defeated C Narayana Swamy and also held the position of minister in the central government. In the midst of these achievements, he was the 25th chief minister of Karnataka. This time around he is contesting for the parliament from the Bengaluru North constituency.
Shobha Karandlaje, a resident of Charvaka village started her political life by becoming MLC in 2004. Charvaka village, which used to be under the limits of Puttur, now falls under the Kadaba taluk limits. So this village is also under limits of Sullia legislative assembly constituency.
Shobha was elected as an MLA from the Yashwantpur legislative assembly constituency. Later in 2014, she became a MP by defeating Jayaprakash Hegde in the Udupi-Chikkamagalur Lok Sabha constituency. This time, she is contesting from the same constituency once again.
Nalin Kumar Kateel is a native of Kunjadi in Palthady village, but resides in the city now. However, his mother still lives in Kunjady and he goes there often to meet her.
Nalin, who grew up as a common worker of BJP, contested for the first time in 2009 Lok Sabha elections and got elected in the first attempt itself. Again in 2014, he was victorious. He defeated the influential and tall leader of Congress Janardhana Poojay on both the occasions. He is on the verge of a hat trick victory from the same constituency yet again in 2019.
On the whole, the Sullia legislative assembly constituency has made a great achievement by sending three MPs from its base to the parliament of India. It should be seen whether all the three will continue the trend in this elections also.
