Udupi, Mar 13: “Both the governments at the center and the state have remained indifferent in solving sand problem in the district. Both the governments are unjust in distribution of grants and several things including development works,” alleged Jayakarnataka district president Sathish Poojary Saligrama.
Jayakarnataka organisation has announced that it will boycott elections alleging failure of the governments to solve sand issue and president Sathish addressed protests held in this connection in Ajjarkad war memorial on Tuesday, March 12.
“MP Shobha Karandlaje had conducted no development works in the district. She has completely neglected the district. We will boycott elections if she is the candidate this time also. We will not extend any support to her. MP Shobha has not cooperated when seven fishermen went missing. She has not raised her voice over sand problem. She has only made the problem complex. However we have nothing against BJP party,” he clarified.
“Daily wage workers are unemployed because of sand issue. Poor people are unable to construct houses. Though there is sufficient amount of sand in the district, it cannot be extracted. Ninety days have passed by since seven fishermen went missing. But there are no clues about them so far. Elected representatives have completely failed to find them,” he alleged.
“The governments at the center and the state should take necessary measures for their search. They should provide necessary financial assistance to their families,” he urged.
Jayakarnataka district committee honorary president Srinivas Shetty Barkur, president Sharath Shetty Kundapur, chief secretary Nithyananda Ameen, office bearers B Sudhaker Rao Barkur, Karunaker Poojary, Ganesh Raj Mogaveera, Annappa Kulal, Harish Shetty, Mahesh Kotian, Rathnaker Mogaveera, Girish Hejmady, Karunaker Marpalli, Vivek Kalmady, Mahesh Manipal, Srinivas Shetty Thonse and others took part in the protests.
