Kundapur, Mar 12: “The passing away of Subrahmanya Puranik who was an asset not only for the school but the entire society in an unbearable loss,” said Fr Fred Mascarenhas. He was speaking after presiding over in Puranik Trophy volleyball tournament held in flood lights by Padukone education and sports promoters Nada at Gregory high school grounds in memory of late Subrahmanya Puranik.
“Puranik who was the inspiration by his selfless service for students to proceed on the path of progress and to strengthen their confidence has provided education to several children. The distribution of scholarships and support for sports by Padukone education and sports promoters is commendable,” he said.
Gregory high school Nada Padukone convener Silvester D’Almeida who inaugurated the programme said that the service of late Subrahmanya Puranik in the school was valuable and a model for others.
Nada gram panchayat member Philip D’ Silva read the report and distributed scholarships to 18 students. An amount of Rs 1.75 lac collected by Padukone education and sports promoters Nada was handed over to Saumya Puranik, wife of late Subrahmanya Puranik.
Nada gram panchayat vice president Arvind Poojary, Gregory high school retired headmaster Xavier D’ Souza, retired teacher Shanker Shetty, Ekalavya awardee Anup D’ Costa, school headmaster Seetarama Shetty, Padukone church former vice president of pastoral council Steven D’ Souza, entrepreneur Karunaker Shetty Samsady, Shanker Shety, Stany Louis, Gratian Crasta, Wilson Olivera and Channakeshava Puranik were in the programme.
Wilson Crasta and Nishmita D’ Souza compered the programme. Kenedy Pereira welcomed and gave an introductory address. Alex Antony D’ Souza proposed the vote of thanks. Fr Fred Mascarenhas, set in motion the volley ball tournament.
