Udupi, Mar 6: Udupi RTO has the target of collecting Rs 140.21 cores by way of revenue during 2019. Rs 121 crores have been collected at the end of February. As the target should be reached by March end, vehicle owners should pay their taxes failing which stringent action will be taken against them as per motor vehicles act and rules said deputy transport commissioner and district senior regional transport officer R M Varnekar.
Speaking in a news conference in the RTO office on Tuesday he said that those vehicles which have dues pending for payment will be seized, cases will be registered against vehicles operating violating permits and wide scale inspections of the vehicles will be held, urging to pay all the taxes.
“The department will collect pending taxes by charge sheets. As many as 900 such charge sheets have been submitted to the court. As many as 250 vehicles including eight buses, one motor cab, 35 Lorries, ambulance and school vehicles are seized during the last two months. Total 181 cases are registered and 42 vehicles are seized in January. Rs 18,56,525 tax and Rs 5,79,500 fines was collected,” he said.
“As many as 4,20,000 vehicles are registered in Udupi. Among them 1,00,500 are transport vehicles. If a vehicle from other state runs for more than 30 days in Karnataka, they have to pay tax. If buses ply on different routes than specified to them or a goods vehicle carries heavy goods than permitted to them, it becomes a violation,” he said.
“Rs 136.5 crore was collected in the district in taxes last time exceeding the target,” said Varnekar.
