Bengaluru: Cong, JD-S discuss seat-sharing in Karnataka for LS polls

Bengaluru, Mar 4 (IANS): The Karnataka ruling alliance partners, the Congress and the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S), here on Monday discussed the seat-sharing strategy for the Lok Sabha elections, party leaders said.

"The co-ordination committee discussed seats to be contested by each party," chairman of committee and Congress leader Siddaramaiah said. It was a cordial meeting, he added.

The parties, however, are yet to finalise the seat-sharing strategy.

"Some more discussions will be held within the parties as per the pre-poll alliance. It will be finalised within a week," said JD-S general secretary Danish Ali.

A meeting between Congress president Rahul Gandhi and JD-S national president H.D. Deve Gowda is also scheduled in few days to finalise the poll strategy, Ali said.

"The main motive of the JD-S and the Congress is to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and cut its strength in the state," he said.

Of the 28 Lok Sabha seats in 2014, the BJP had won 17, the Congress nine and the JD-S two.
