Udupi, Feb 2: United Cricketers, Shirva, bagged the prestigious Nethaji Hardball Cricket Trophy organized by Nethaji Sports Club, Parkala.
They defeated Paradise Bannanje, Udupi, by 4 wickets. The final match was held at the beautiful cricket ground at End Point, Manipal. Paradise Club lost the toss, and was sent in to bat first. They scored 99 runs in 36.4 overs.
United Cricketers, Shirva, lost 6 wickets and scored a century to take home the trophy and a cash prize of Rs 10,000. Paradise Bannanje received the runners-up trophy and a cash prize of Rs 5,000.
Vedananda of Paradise Bannaje was adjudged the ‘Man of the Series’, while Gopala Shetty of the same team was named ‘Best Batsman’. Nithyananda of United Cricketers was the ‘Best Bowler’ while his teammate Manoj was the ‘Man of the Match’. Pradeep of Eleven Star, Udyavar was named ‘Best Fielder’.
The prize distribution ceremony was held under the chairmanship of national award winner K S Jai Vittal. After distributing the prizes, Raghupathy Bhat, MLA, assured that a cricket ground will come up at Doddanagude or Beedinagudde, shortly.
Rotarian Aboobacker was the chief guest of the function. Balakrishna Parkala, president of the club, welcomed the gathering. Raghavendra Bhat gave the vote of thanks. Girija Parkala was the compere.
