Kundapur, Jan 28: After an ore truck rammed into his motor bike on Balebare ghat road near Hosangady in the taluk, Santosh (23), an engineering student died on the spot on Tuesday January 27 afternoon.
Santosh, who was an engineering student in Chikmagalur, was trying to get a passport, as he wanted to go to USA immediately after completing his degree. A police constable named Bhaskar from Shankarnarayana police station had accompanied him for verification of his address in connection with passport application on his motor bike. After getting signature of four witnesses on the application, the police constable asked Santosh to stop the motor bike on the road and started intercepting the ore trucks. One of the trucks stopped behind the motor bike while another came from behind and hit the parked truck. The parked truck jerked ahead, crushing the motor bike and its rider, Santosh.
The locals went berserk at the incident and thrashed the police constable. It took long to remove the body of the youth, stuck in the truck. Traffic on the road was stranded for about four hours. In a complaint filed by the Karnataka Power Corporation Employees Union with the policemen, the department was urged to take immediate action against the constable concerned. Post mortem was conducted in Siddapur government hospital.
Santosh was the only son of Satyanarayana and Baby couple, with his sister Sandhya studying in an engineering college in Moodlakatte near here.
