Mangalore, Jan 28: The recent attack of a pub in Mangalore evoked widespread condemnation in the city by political leaders, teachers, and non-governmental organisations.

BJP district unit president Monappa Bhandary said that Sri Ram Sene had nothing to do with the BJP and that it was an independent body.

Congress leader B. Janardhan Poojary condemned the statements of the BJP leaders disowning Sri Ram Sene. He said: “Ram Sene and Bajrang Dal are all independent pillars on which the BJP is standing.”

Opposition leader V.S. Ugrappa held the Home Minister V.S. Acharya responsible for the attack and said that Mr. Acharya was the worst Home Minister the State had ever seen.

He added that Mr. Acharya should resign if he had some moral responsibility.

Representatives of various organisations met the Deputy Commissioner on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum seeking an end to the continuous disturbance of peace in the city.

B.K. Ravindra, SDM Law College Principal, told the Deputy Commissioner that he was feeling embarrassed to teach law to his students as there was no law and order in the State.

The National Students Union of India asked the Bar Council to cancel the membership of Dinesh Shetty, legal adviser to Sri Ram Sene and said that Mr. Shetty had showed disrespect to the law by justifying the attack.

NSUI demanded arrest of the “goondas” of Bajrang Dal and Sri Ram Sene. The Mangalore All College Students’ Union condemned the act and said that they would be meeting the Deputy Commissioner on Wednesday and would give a memorandum.

The Democratic Youth Federation of India in association with Students Federation of India staged a protest against “terrorism in the name of culture” and “we will not let Karanataka become another Gujarat”.
