Kolar, Jan 27: The reconstructed grotto of St Mary’s Church, located near Mekke Circle, was inaugurated on Sunday January 25.
The grotto had been vandalized by miscreants on September 17, 2008, during the series of attacks on Christian churches and worship centers. It has now been reconstructed at the cost of the state government.
Former deputy commissioner (DC) of the district and current secretary of state for backward classes R Srinivas, councilor Rajesh, Peace Committee president Srikrishna, St Mary’s parish priest Fr Doraiswamy and a large number of faithful were present on the occasion.
The efforts of parishioner S Fredrick in following up with the state government on the reconstruction of the damaged grotto was at realized with the inauguration on Sunday.
The parish priest and parishioners acknowledged the assistance provided by the minister for religious endowment minister Krishnayya Shetty, who contributed Rs 25,000 in cash during his visit to witness the damage to the grotto last September. They also acknowledged the assistance of former DC R Srinivas in restoring the grotto to its original glory.
