Udupi, Jan 27: Sri Vishweshateerta Swamiji of Pejawar Math, accompanied by hundreds of devotees, took bath in the Arabian Sea at the beach at Kanwateerta near Talapady, some distance away from here, on Monday January 26, on the occasion of the solar eclipse. People from various parts of the state and Kerala, including Bangalore and Kasargod, had come to take part in the programme. The Swamiji conducted certain pujas, delivered discourses on Upanishads, Bhagawad and the solar eclipse. Mysore Ramachandra and troup presented 'Dasavani' programme on the occasion.
Sri Lakshmivarateerta Swamiji of Shirur Math performed 'Shavasana' in the sea about two kms away from Kodibengre shore near Udupi for about two hours. He conducted Varuna Japa, Vishwamitra Gayatri, Ashtamahamantra and prayed for the welfare of the world, when floating in the water.
The Swamiji said that astrological calculations predict the rainy season this time to have a delayed start, while rainfall will be heavy thereafter. "As this will cause shortage of drinking water, I have prayed for a regular monsoon this year," he explained.
Special worships and Mrutyunjaya Japa were organized at Kollur and Anegudde Sri Vinayaka temple in Udupi district too, to negate the perceived ill-affects of the solar eclipse.
