Udupi, Feb 12: Relating to the recent double murder committed near Chikkanakere, Manuru near Kota, the police from here have arrested five more accused on Monday February 11.
The people arrested now happen to be Abhishek alias Abhi Palan (23), resident of Subrahmanya Nagar, Puttur Udupi, Santosh Kunder (35) from Hanehalli in Barkur near Brahmavar, Nagaraj alias Rotti Nagaraj (44) from Brahmavar, Pranav Rao (20) from Bhadravathi, and Shankar Mogaveera from Anjaru village.
It is learnt that Abhishek was directly involved with the murder case. He runs painting business and also lends on exorbitant interest. The other four had helped the accused. Santosh Kunder allegedly helped the accused to escape. Shankar Mogaveera and Nagaraja have been charged with sheltering the main accused. Pranav Rao, a final year B Com student, had provided money and cellphone to the accused, a release from the office of the superintendent of police here stated.
With these arrests, the total number of persons arrested in connection with this infamous case has risen to 13. It may be recalled that on Sunday, the police had arrested Pavan Ameen and Veerendra Acharya, personnel attached to the district armed reserve police here, on the charge of helping the murder-accused.
The arrested accused were produced in the court and remanded to judicial custody till February 15, the district superintendent of police stated.
A gang had killed Bharath Kumar and Yatish relating a dispute over digging of the leech pit at Chikkanakere, Manuru, Kota, on January 26. In connection with these murders, Zilla panchayat BJP member, Raghavendra Kanchan, rowdy sheeter, Rajashekhar Reddy, Medical Ravi, Harish Reddy, Mahesh Ganiga, Ravichandra Poojary, Pavan Ameen and Veerendra Acharya already stand arrested.
