Mandya, Feb 10: Former union minister, S M Krishna, claimed that he resigned from the position of the minister for foreign affairs in the then UPA government at the centre, having been fed up by frequent interference by Rahul Gandhi, who did not enjoy any official position of power in the party.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating a meeting of BJP workers in the city on Saturday February 9, Krishna said that Congress was going through a situation that was vitiated by poisonous things from 2009 to 2014. "Ten years back, Rahul did not have any organizational position in the Congress. Still, he was acting like an extra constitutional authority. The then Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, was there just for showing. Many things happened without being brought to the notice of Manmohan Singh. Singh had failed to win over confidence of and have control over his colleagues. This was the period where scams happened one after the other. This is a live example of what can happen if the country lacks an able leadership," he explained.

"Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has leadership skills that can match those exhibited by Sardar Vallabhai Patel. Because of his leadership, India has reached a point from where it can make a decisive thrust in progress ahead. It is the need of the hour and we are duty bound to make him Prime Minister again," he said.
Speaking at Nidaghatta in Maddur taluk, Krishna said that neither he nor any of his family members would fight Lok Sabha election from Mandya constituency. He expected BJP led by Modi to come back to power with a huge support from the people.
On the issue of Sumalatha joining BJP he said he did not have any information on this issue.
