Udupi, Jan 24: Dr Pratap Kumar, head of the department of obstetrics and gynaecology Kasturba Medical College and Hospital Manipal (KMC) and head of the legal advisory committee on anti-sex determination during pregnancy act, felt that the country is bound to face a critical problem in future, in view of the ratio of girls both in national and local levels, as compared to boys.
He was speaking after inaugurating the National Girls Protection Day observation organized by Lions and Lioness Clubs of Manipal on Friday January 23, at the Anganwadi Training Centre of KMC.
Girls require nutritious food and security both when they are young and during their teen years. There is a need to ensure that the gender discrimination bane does not harm them, he said.
Manipal Lions Club president Santosh Kumar Hejmady, Anganwadi Training Centre principal N Madhav Rao and Lioness Club president Sarita Santosh were present. Assistant professor in the department of gynaecology, KMC, Lakshmi participated as resource person.
