Mangalore, Jan 24: The inaugural of 'Tuluvere Ayano-2009' was held at Bolukatte Ground of Badiadka near Kasargod here on Friday January 23.
Speaking after inaugurating the programme, Dr Venkatraj Puninchattaya, president, Kerala Tulu Academy, said that Tulu does not suffer from lack of standard literature. However, disinterestedness on the part of the concerned has affected the growth of the language, he opined.
Tulu being one of the oldest surviving languages, must grow in stature and contribute to the progress of Tulunadu. Growth of culture is possible only through the growth of language, he said.
"The people of Tulunadu must get their act together and unitedly fight for the development of their language and culture," advised Oscar Fernandes, union minister, participating as the chief guest at the seminar on 'Tulu language and Eighth chapter'. "Tulu culture is unique with distinct featires like ‘Bhootaradhane’, ‘Cock fight’ and ‘Kambala’. It is eligible to be included in the eighth chapter of the constitution. This issue needs to be discussed and actively pursued with the union department of culture," he added.
Nagappa Marava Padumale hoisted the flag of ‘Tulu Ayano’.
Mahin Kelot, president of Badiadka gram panchayat inaugurated the folk song competition, while Prof Tukaram Poojary, president, Bantwal Rani Abbakka Tulu Study Centre, inaugurated the exhibition. The book stall set up on the occasion was inaugurated by P Y Rajendra Kumar, consultant, Indira Gandhi National Art Centre while the painting exhibition was inaugurated by P S Puninchattaya, artist, and craft exhibition by Kundapur Narayan Kharvi, president, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy.
Radhakrishna Uliyatadka, journalist, spoke on the contents of the souvenir brought out on the occasion.
B P Sheni, convener of the Reception Committee welcomed the gathering. Vasundhara Rai Muchchikarve, convener, compered the programme. Satish Salian proposed vote of thanks.
